About the Course

This intensive workshop welcomes researchers from biomedical sciences, physics, and engineering backgrounds. Through a blend of theory and hands-on practice, you'll gain essential skills in fluorescence microscopy - from optical principles to image acquisition and analysis.

What You'll Learn:

  • Optical Foundations – Core principles of optics and microscopy techniques

  • Fluorescence Microscopy – Understanding the theory behind fluorescence imaging

  • Build Your Own Microscope – Collaborate in small teams to assemble an openUC2 fluorescence microscope

  • Sample Preparation – Perform immunofluorescent labeling of biological samples

  • Image Acquisition – Learn how to capture images using a microscope

  • Image Analysis Fundamentals – Learn essential tools and workflows for analyzing biological images

This workshop bridges the gap between theory and practice, giving you hands-on experience with every stage of the microscopy pipeline - from instrument construction to data interpretation.

Who Should Apply:

No previous microscopy experience needed. We're looking for motivated participants who will:

  • Apply these skills to a concrete research challenge

  • Share their knowledge as a microscopy resource at their home institution
